After Cars & Coffee in Folsom, today, I installed the replacement coolant expansion tank (noted that today 11/14/2021, the price has gone up $5 since I bought it), Took like 20 minutes. Used this video (for an ST, but close enough) to get a grip on it before I started. Would have been fine without...but WTH.

This mounting tab was hard to disengage & engage on my car. The back tab was easy.

I used a one-quart Tupperware to catch the coolant (reused the coolant that came out). I removed the top small hose, then the bottom cap, and then laid the tank over so it would drain out the two small ports. Then I took off the bottom hose.

One thing to watch for is when reinstalling the bottom plug, be sure it doesn't rotate off the tabs. The tabs are at 9 & 3 o'clock; not all the way around like the top small hose. If you rotate the plug off the tabs it will likely back out allowing all your freezy juice to pump out.

New & old.

Eezy peezy! I kept the old cap as a spare for the parts bin in the boot, and trashed the old tank. I didn't see any obvious cracks, but it was "swollen."

What is the temperature of your cars' thermostat?

IN Mine - while driving, it's hovers about 82C or 180 degrees F - what does your "Self Test Step 23" say?

Reason why this comes up is from all this in my research, the hotter the radiator fluid, the weaker, more pliable that plastic becomes - so this is also looking like a MTBF (Meat Time Between Failures) scenario - for this container is not the same as the radiator nor the block in composition.

MTBF equates to the effort of the softening of that plastic in the hotter engine temps - even the acids the fluid can exhibit in it's thermal characteristics - the pH of the fluid inside, the air trapped inside and outside vapors, and the environment outside - it's left in - all play roles in the extremes it can survive as a given set of cycles in both temperature, pressure and vibration.

I run 180 to 220 depending on whether it's 50 or 110 ambient. Yeah, rubber hoses and plastic tanks are the weak areas in this system, for sure.

I consider it to be a public service to share just how bad those plastic coolant reservoirs are with anyone who has a Fiesta or Chevy Cruze!
The level of trust we have for these components should veer from always aware to to highly distrusting after three years.
I damn near blew up my Moms Cruze this summer thanks to that single part. It was a replacement for the second one since.new! I REALLY keep my eyes open for this issue and i still ended up on the side of the freeway.
The only thing in this world i would automatically trust less than these glorified milk jugs is a crack addicted prostitute that sells used taxi cabs as a side job.

Nice triple. A Kawi?
I want that hot wheels badge.
Those were the badges for the unofficial 50th anniversary Camaro in 2018.
You can get a pair of em on Amazon for around 20 bucks.

Thought about it, but decided I had enough badges.

The guy who started the whole "clean tail" or "Badgeless" trend, would fully agree!

Got the rear window re-tinted. It's kind of hard to see in the photo, but if you look closely there are numerous bubbles. IMG_20211108_102638__01__01.jpg

Numerous bubbles sound like a re-do, to me. When my tint was done it had some very small bubbles...I pointed them out to the guy and he told me they would go away in a couple of days when everything was hardened and dry. They did, but he was willing to re-do anything I did not accept.

Having a few bubbles is perfectly normal, just the moisture left under the film.Once the sun & warmth gets on it,it just evaporates.

Sorry, I wasn't clear, the bubbles in the pic are from before I had the tint redone! They started to appear about a year after the initial tinting, but I lost the receipt (for warranty). There aren't any bubbles currently and I'm keeping this receipt in a safe place
