What I Drive
Ford Fiesta 1.0 Titanium - 2016
Festas felizes e Bom 2025

Hi all

I am from the UK and use to live in LA and am driving a Ford Fiesta 1.0 Ecoboost 2014 Titanium.
Welcome!
We've heard some bad news about that engine. They tend to self-destruct.
That's a shame, since it's torquier and more drivable than the base 1.6.
I hope you get some good use out of it. They're fun little cars.

The 1.0 has some specific issues with its design that requires two separate thermostats, malfunctioning of either one of them being catastrophic for the engine is a major concern. All the other engines have a very “age sensitive “ coolant reservoir and plastic coolant lines. Just last week I found out that the coolant lines and their connectors had reached the limit of their lifespan. When I went to replace the coolant reservoir the connectors to each cooling line literally crumbled as I disconnected them with my bare hands!
The result being a cobbled up fix that took a while to complete so I could use my car until new lines come in. Failure of any of these components is a huge concern a blown engine kind of concern.

Seems to be a chronic problem, just recently drove a 2018 EcoSport with one of those 1.0L - they had a similar issue with broken clips.

They wound up using those threaded hose clamps - I could not believe the OEM clamps failed that fast...

The small diameter plastic lines are original to the car. So, I have to call their lifespan to be eight years.
it will cost over $140 to replace the two plastic lines I am looking to fabricate equivalent lines in metal or aluminum but I have not inspected the other ends of the lines yet to discover how much trouble they will be to replace. I might “chicken out” and just buy the OE parts and then do a protective thermal wrap on the ends of the lines. Then at least the external heat soak will be slightly less. But I don’t like the idea of the plastic lines and clips.
