Turbocharger 1.0l

I have a 2014 Ford Fiesta SE 1.0l ecoboost. She is pushing 109K miles. I need to replace the turbocharger on this car, but I am having difficulties in finding a good turbocharger that is recommended for this engine.

I am also needing advice on what to start looking into replacing with high miles. 90% of the miles are highway miles, and she's been treated very well. Any advice is welcome! Thank You!

Well, it's not acting at all. On our way to a funeral (200 mile drive) in the last 30 miles it started whinning and we had power loss. Limped our way to the funeral, let the engine cool down, and the whine did not go away. We continued to limp our way home, not much power, only the power from the 3 cylinder engine, barely making 60 to 65mph, and maybe 50 to 55mph on the up hill. Thank goodness we live in the great plains!

Once we got it home and parked, it sat for a couple of days (had to work). Fired it up and took it for a drive and no power, however, the turbo wasn't whining, or acting at all. No power from the turbo. I checked vac and we have vac. It was up in about a 1000 miles for an oil change, so I went ahead and changed oil, oil filter, air filter and checked all of those components and all were ok.

Took it to a shop, and they said the turbo needed to be replaced. I'm not too happy with the shops around here as you pay an arm and a leg, and I don't fully know what I'm getting. (example) Had problems with the thermostat, took it to 2 shops that were famaliar, supposedly, with this type of car. Computer threw back thermostat error codes, and I asked them which thermostat and got looked at funny.... Ok I am not a car guy, as I learn everything on the go as I need to in order to get where i need to go. Long story short, I had to get angry at the 3rd shop (a ford dealer) and they finally "looked" into the 2nd thermostat and replaced it.....

So, i'm taking the turbocharger change with a grain of salt, and I found this forum during my searches. I've checked all the hoses and they all appear to be in good condition. I hooked my diagnostic tool up, and no codes kicked back in the diagnostics.

After the oil change, (i can provide the info on what I use if needed), I took the car out to see if anything changed. Nothing changed, no power from the turbo, no sound from the turbo either. So...... I'm turning to you all. I will learn what I need to, buy what I need to, but I need to know that who I am talking to know's this engine (example you guys).

Sorry for the long winded reply, but frustration is getting it's hands on me, and I refuse to give up. I love this car and I'm gonna do what I need to to keep it going. So feel free to hammer me with questions on what's going on, I will respond with the best of my knowledge.

Is that miles OR Kilometres? I would be getting more opinions.

That would be 166,000 odd kilometres then?If that is right,not bad really for the mileage.It’s actually good to see a high mileage Ecoboost 1.0 out there & still going strong!(Every 100,000 miles is 160,000kms)

There are lots of articles about diagnosing a bad turbo. I would start with some google searches and see if it conforms to your symptoms. A blown turbo will usually cause exhaust smoke, as the blown seals let oil get in there. The loss of power and the whine is a good indicator. You really don't want to drive it until the issue is dealt with.
You would think that with all the turbo cars Ford sells, their dealers would be good at fixing them, but as we know, that is not always the case. A service dept. is a real crap shoot. They might just start slapping parts in there and hope they replace whatever the bad part is, then charge you a fortune.
You might want to look around and see if there are any shops that specialize in dealing with turbos. Replacing a turbo is a big job that has to be done right the first time.
The only car Ford sells in the US now with your engine is the Ecosport FWD. The parts exist. Finding someone who knows what they're doing is the hard part.

I googled some information on the turbo as recommended and with exception of the smoke part, everything seems to line up on a bad turbo. I've got a friend that is going to help change out the turbo once I get the parts in. He worked on the turbos on the Ford F series Diesel, but he asked if I would post a question in here.

"I'm not familiar with these small gasoline engines, as they are quite different than the big diesel engines that I am used to. While we are changing out the turbo and all gaskets that are part of it, is there anything else you guys recommend we doing during this process. I am unfamiliar with this small 3 cylinder engine."

It's basically the same deal as a diesel turbo, just really tiny. Your friend probably knows about priming it with a little oil before you start it. If you can find the torque specs, use them. Take some pics as you go so it's easy to put it all back together.
This guy's doing one in a Focus. That should help you see what you're looking at.

2nd: That's a turbo? Now, come over here. He popped the hood of his diesel F-350 and said, that's a turbo lol

They got it into the shop and the first thing the boss did was check the oil. He wanted to fire me, but the oil was perfect because I topped it off before I left. LOL
Every diesel on the road has a turbo. They last for years.

True! The first instinct is to blame it on the driver. That's true of anything that goes wrong in the trucking business.
My sister worked for a company that manufactures turbos. She worked in QC. They were having issues with turbos being made in a new factory in Mexico. Some were failing way too soon. Not a lot, mind you, but more than average, which is a ridiculously low number, overall. They managed to fix the issues over about a year of very careful analysis. The tolerances in those things are incredibly tight, but if you have a good one, they last.

Sorry I have not gotten it fixed just yet. Just shortly after these posts I went down on my Ankle and I had to have surgery. I'm recovering from my surgery, and will get back to doing things.

I will definitely post once we have it replaced!!

So after 3 weeks of waiting for it to ship and me to recover from surgery. We are finally set to change out the Turbo this coming Sunday!!!!!!

Now that I am facing surgery number 4, I am pleased to announce that the FIESTA LIVES!!!!!!

The turbo has been changed and she's got power.

So..... The link in this post has caused me to ask yet another question! I've recently been in a discussion concerning oil and the turbocharger for my car, and being the person with the lack of knowledge I am turning to eveyrone here once again for the vast weath of knowledge (of which I have little to offer)

My Fiery Fiesta has run most all of it's life on LiquiMolly Special Tech SAE 5-20. (Granted I've loved this oil from the beginning because, well it was green, although this version isn't, my Fiery Fiesta is my little vulcan child in my head).... Anyway... She has 109K miles on her, and a good 104K miles is with this oil. Is this oil OK or should I need to change it. I changed it from what the Ford Dealership had (Which I will never go back to them for other reasons), because all of the research I did recommended the European Synthetic Oil.

If you follow regular changing intervals, there is no need to - you may want to go up from the 20 to 30W as you approach 150K or more - for the thicker properties will keep "coking" down so you can keep the regular change routine.

When you switch to higher, remember too the extra pressure in the system from the flow - this is so the system can keep oil in it's veins for a longer time (not by much but helps with building pressure) so the high volume oil pump it has can still suck in oil and not cavitate (foaming)
