i think ford offers a 5 year warranty unlimited mileage for corrosion. i plan to keep the car for 5 or 6 years, maybe less. i'm thinking rustproofing would be a waste of money. your thoughts?

Check link, myself, I would not bother. Best time to rust proof a car is during manufacture by Gal-dipping the body. Spaying any kind of anti-corrosion on after assemble is not very effective because it simple can't penetrate to all the areas where its needed.

yea i think i'll cancel my rustproofing and save $600. screw them, it costs 100 but they charge me 600. im not buying anything from ford except the car and breaks when needed (break pads have lifetime warranty when you get them replaced at ford, you only pay for labour after), or other essential oem parts like windshield wipers, oil change etc... even tire rotation and maintenance (i get free oil/filter changes for life).

thanks for the heads up.

$600 is pretty high. Check out this video, they said its something you can do on a yearly basis for about $100. It's also noted in the video that the rust proofing provided by some dealers can do more harm than good.

thanks for the vid, that's actually a toronto news station haha.

so in that case, i'll leave the car without rustproofing for 1 to 2 years and then start rustproofing yearly around november. makes sense?

Old thread but I'll add to this...

Yes, they can damage the natural rubber components, but most of the "rubber" used in Fords today is more Neoprene - EDPM and or synthetic vinyl's/Nitriles - less problems with UV breakdown and the usual road abrade problems rubber normally gets a bad rap from.

I know what you're talking about because some natural rubber materials literally crumble in a few minutes of exposure - from some of the topcoat sealants used these days.

I don't drive my Fiesta in winter. So i never saw a point to additional rust inhibitors.
Well, that decision ended up burning me.
My 2016 Fiesta ST started showing evidence of rust creeping out of the door , hatch and hood panels at the seam edges. Fords warranty does not apply to corrosion in body seams.
So now i have a situation where a car that is not winter driven with rust bubbling out of the edges of body panels under the edge where the outer panel wraps over the panel frame.
Something was changed in the paint preparation process. My 2011 fiesta, also not winter driven, is absolutely spotless in this regard.
I probably should have popped for a good paraffin based treatment. Every closure panel on my 2016 is steadily rotting away at the seams. 20210216_173244.jpg

.i think i posted some in another section here a few months ago. I can dig them out and post em here too. It's very disturbing! When i look at that car now, i just get an image of myself removing the doors, hatch lid and hood and doing a complete refinishing job!
It will be the first time I had to do rust repairs and a repaint on a car i had not yet paid off!

The paint on these cars is terrible. I'm not getting any rust yet, but the seams are not looking good. The lift handle is rubbing off paint.
