High everyone, this is my first post here. I had a 2011 with a blown motor popped in my lap, so i had a mech do a motor swap. Starts , runs , shifts well , but i hear a whirling sound on deceleration. I am not sure its origin ... checked transmission fliud (running and in neutral) via fill plug and is OK ... catalytic converts r a little plugged due to previous motor head gasket added coolant to exhaust ...

Any ideas on the noise is hear ... is if normal to hear a noise decelerating ?

Replacing the motor yet not the whole driveline - the whine could have been caused by the previous owner (popped into your lap) did something causing it's engine to fail - and possibly due to a impact stoppage while under torque - type of moment - which leaves a mess in the transmission and driveline still left.

So, if the owners OK, with driveability, the whine will be normal showing wear on the system - but it can take years of driving to develop the next issue from the impact - so is it worth the replace the driveline moment?

Hmmm - save the costs and check your wallet first...and mileage for their warranty work...

Thx for replies gents ... yes mechanic looked /listened at the issue and couldn't tell ...

The old motor had a leak in rad which led to overheat and head gasket failure, but the new motor n trans from the wrecker i do not know its "story" , so a u stated the possible impact under torque could be a cause ... the sound is definitely passenger side , which is why i guessed alternator ...
Imma do the brakes cuz they need it, and hit up the wheel bearing to and see if it subsides ... thx gents , will letcha know

Hmmm. Wait a sec, you didn't mention the issues of hearing the noise from one side - the passenger side.

Is your Drivers seat on the Left side (you in the seat facing the front of the car, you're steering wheel is the left side of the vehicle)? You are from Canada - so I presume yes, for we do have readers that are overseas that may drive on the left side of the street.

IF so, the longer CV axle is on the right side drive wheel uses a bearing to hold it fast to the sub-frame and transaxles' case to keep the shaft from becoming unbalanced or form parasitic harmonics from the vibration it produces during the rotation. This may mean you have a carriage bearing - on the CV axle for the Right side, going out.
