Do you have an Automatic or Manual?

This looks to be a vent hose that is supposed to go to an open vent box located by the battery compartment in Automatics - it's a vent hose to let air in and out due to pressure changes in the transmission fluid as you drive - so it doesn't blow seals and "mark its territory" anytime or anywhere you park your car.
