A old guy but a newbie to forums

Hi I’m an old guy but have driven fords for a number off years from a mk1 escort,mk3and 4 capris to now for the last 12 years fiestas done my own repairs at times but new technologies take over and I leave things now to the local garage
I would like to know how to download the updates ford have issued do i let the icar modem connect to my wifi ? And does it download the map upgrades or do I have to download on to a flash drive and do it that way

Welcome to the forum. I would recommend that you be prepared to take a good deal of time to do a system update through your home wifi. You will have to leave the ignition on for the process to occur and should connect a battery to a charger while it loads. Or, It will suck the battery down in the process of taking the update. You don't need to ask how i came to learn that!

Thanks sort of guessed that what I have noticed though once you start to download then move away when you reconnect to wifi it starts where it left off so maybe better done in stages

Welcome aboard, flash drive is the best way to do any updates.

Well I’ve managed the software updating eventually got it right 😂now I’ve got to do the map update but need a 32 gig flash drive bought a new flash drive today 16gig thinking that’s big enough my bad 😞 anyway thanks for the advice

Well an update ######## just spent the last 3 hours downloading the map update and then extracted into a 32 gig flash drive only to find the file dontindx.msa has not appeared to say I’m mad is an understatement

Another update been on to ford apparently this file is not needed but if you copy said file from another update namely the sync3 one and transfer it into the map update it will work so watch this space 😊

Update # well done the sync3 and map update sync3 took about 30 from downloading to extracting to a flash drive then into the system!
the maps from start to extracton to flash drive was approximately 3 hours
then updating into system was 1 hour to rebooting then 1hour 15 minutes to completion 😥 but it’s done no problems apart from the time it takes! dab radio logos are ok some say they are missing after installing only thing I have found are newer build street addresses upto 4 years are not included but some 2 years are weird ( didn’t expect the maps to be right upto date anyway)but it’s done now don’t know about next time maybe maybe not 😂😂😂
