Ford is recalling 197 2014 Ford Fiesta cars in North America because a fuel tank problem could lead to a fire risk, according to the company.
"Fuel tanks built during a specific time period at the supplier may be missing an adhesive layer," Ford said in a statement provided to Edmunds on Tuesday. "Without this adhesive layer, a fuel tank may leak fuel from a seam. A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source may result in a fire."
The affected vehicles include certain 2014 Fiestas built from October 25, 2013 through February 27, 2014 at Ford's Cuautitlan Assembly Plant.
"No accidents, injuries or fires have been attributed to this condition," Ford said.
No information about the recall has been posted on the Web site of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which oversees vehicle recalls in the U.S.
Ford dealers will replace the fuel tank in the affected cars. The recall will begin the week of July 14, according to Kelli Felker, a Ford spokeswoman. Owners can contact Ford at (800) 392-3673.
