- What I Drive
- 2014 Ford Fiesta Titanium Sedan
I recently hit 140k on my Fiesta so I decided to take it in for a new timing belt since Ford recommends it at 150k (I know this does sound like a lot). No prior issues with the car. I had a Ford belt and crankbolt I bought new from a dealer, I did the water pump around 90k (also replaced timing belt tensioner) and decided to wait for the belt. Fast forward, the dealer puts on the belt, bolt and a new serpentine. I drive the car home and get a P0016 as I am coming into driveway. Call dealer, take right back. They say timing belt is loose, you need a new tensioner. OK, it wasn't that old but fine, they did it for free. Get car back, drive to work about 37 miles, leaving work car start to run rough. Immediately stop at a autozone, P0365/P0369, Camshaft Bank B codes. Call dealer, tell them. Service manager complains, tells me I have to pay the diag charge for them to look. I had car towed to dealer from Autozone. Dealer then claims the timing belt is wrong one, big argument with manager who tells me he will roll my car out to street and I can tow it and hangs up on me. I call Ford, they call dealer and tell me they will get new belt and fix. Fast forward again, they tell me they replaced belt but Cam Phaser is broken, 30 to 40 degrees off. So now I have to tow it out. The car worked fine before they touched it.....
Does anyone know how the Phaser could have failed like this after they took it apart? Is it because I drove it for 37 miles with an incorrect belt? Should I just take it apart and fix it myself now (I have the timing tool kit)?
