The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has opened an investigation into an estimated 205,000 2011-2013 Ford Fiesta cars for door latch failure.
NHTSA said it has received 61 reports that the Fiesta's doors may fail to latch and/or inadvertently open.
"Complainants alleged that the door(s) failed to latch, with several reports indicating that the 'door ajar' warning light on the dash appeared," said NHTSA in its summary of the probe. "Of the reports identified, 12 allege that the door(s) opened after it was shut and the driver started their route."
One injury was reported. A consumer was struck by a door that "rebounded" after it was shut, according to federal safety regulators.
NHTSA has opened a preliminary evaluation into the matter. Such an action sometimes precedes a recall, but the 2011-'13 Fiesta has not been recalled at this point.
