Hi everyone,

I’m hoping someone might be able to help me out, I’ve had my fiesta for just over 2 years and never had any problems until a few months ago, the cigarette lighter wasn’t working and I wanted to be able to charge my phone whilst driving. Went online and found the correct layout for my fuse box and changed the corresponding fuse, the cigarette lighter was then working, however during this process I noticed a burning smell for a few seconds resulting in my radio completely stopping, theres no power to the small display screen which used to display the date and time and nothing from the radio either, today I’ve took the silver radio head out to check for any signs of burning and can’t see anything that abnormal so my only other guess is that it’s a wiring issue? I’ve just bought a new radio and will try that when it arrives and hope that might fix it but if anyone has advice it would be greatly appreciated. :)

Sounds like you may have crossed some wires somewhere, and that's why it fizzled. Check all the wiring and harnesses, and look for connectivity or the lack of it.

When you found the lighter plug quit working - it blew a fuse that fed it. So you replaced the fuse to it, and you noticed a burning smell - so this means there is a short in the harness to the lighter plug. The wire to that plug - there may be two plugs, one in the front console while another plug is on the back to the rear seats - if the wiring to both plugs is still working - then the wiring that the feedline to both the lighters and the stereo - that main harness one is the one that possibly went bad - as in by the footwell to either the passenger side (that kick panel you can remove by and below the glove box) or the drivers side the one below next to the brake pedal and on the side kick panel - these two areas have larger connectors that feed battery power to and from the front dash and Body Control Module - that may mean you blew a larger fuse or are having it ready to burn up the wiring feeding the Stereo and Lighter plugs on the main console - or the lighter plug affected by the bad wiring is now blown open taking the Stereo feeder line with it. The problem here is one line goes to the SYNC/Stereo system by also powers a relay the loops back to the front engine compartment.

So you'll have to locate both fuse boxes - one at the front engine and the other behind the glovebox - and grab the owners manual and see if you can locate other fuses that can also power the Head AMP by itself. I'm thinking F33 or F5 or F7 but that requires your Owners manual to verify these locations exist.
